Faerûn is a vast and ancient continent within the world of Toril, the primary setting of the Forgotten Realms. It is a land shaped by magic, divine intervention, lost civilizations, and countless wars. Empires rise and fall across centuries, while ancient ruins from forgotten ages lie buried beneath forests, deserts, and mountains.

Guild Draconis operates across this continent, sending its members into many of these lands to investigate threats, recover lost knowledge, and influence the delicate balance of power that governs the world.

A Brief History of Faerûn

Faerûn’s history stretches back tens of thousands of years and is marked by powerful magical civilizations, divine upheavals, and catastrophic events that reshaped the world.

The Age of Creation

In the earliest days of Toril, the world was shaped by the gods and the elemental forces of creation. The first races—dragons, giants, and primordial beings—dominated the landscape long before the rise of humanoid civilizations.

During this era, the giant god Annam established the Ordning, the rigid hierarchy that governed giant society for millennia.

The Age of Elven and Dwarven Empires

Thousands of years before the current age, powerful elven kingdoms flourished across Faerûn, including the legendary empire of Myth Drannor. At the same time, the dwarves carved vast underground kingdoms such as Mithral Hall and Gauntlgrym.

These civilizations produced incredible magical and architectural achievements, many of which still exist as ruins scattered throughout the continent.

The Netherese Empire

The ruins of Netheril remain some of the most dangerous and powerful locations in Faerûn.

One of the most powerful magical civilizations in Faerûn’s history was the empire of Netheril.

Netherese archmages mastered magic to a degree rarely seen before or since, creating floating cities and spells capable of reshaping reality itself. Their empire ultimately collapsed after a magical catastrophe known as Karsus's Folly, which destabilized the fabric of magic across the world.

The Time of Troubles

In the Year of Shadows (1358 DR), the gods themselves were cast down to walk among mortals during an event known as the Time of Troubles.

During this crisis:

The goddess of magic Mystra was reborn, restoring stability to the Weave—the magical energy that powers spellcasting across the world.

The Spellplague

A century later, the world was shaken again when Mystra was slain, triggering a magical catastrophe known as the Spellplague.

The Spellplague caused wild magical storms that reshaped entire regions of Faerûn. Lands were destroyed, continents shifted, and many civilizations were thrown into chaos.
